The company Stevenson and Associates (S&A) was originally established as a consulting engineering firm in Cleveland, Ohio, by Dr. John D. Stevenson in 1981. Since 1990 S&A, and Dr. Stevenson in particular, has been active in developing consulting engineering services in Central and Eastern Europe.
Currently, there are two independent S&A offices in Czech Republic (S&A-CZ) and in Russia (S&A-RU). The founders of these offices have spent extended periods of time in the S&A office in Cleveland, USA developing state-of-the-art international consulting techniques applicable to structural mechanical design and analysis of industrial structures, systems, and equipment with particular emphasis on hazardous petro-chemical facilities and nuclear power plants (NPPs). These offices provide structural-mechanical consulting services primarily in their regions, but have also provided worldwide consulting services.
S&A-CZ was established in 1992 and is located in Pilsen, Czech Republic. Currently the staff of the office includes twelve mechanical, electrical, civil and software engineers and also four technicians and office administrators. S&A-CZ can also call on the services as needed of the S&A-RU office located in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Since 1999 Stevenson and Associates Office in Czech Republic is a member of the Paul C. Rizzo Associates, Inc. Group (PCRA). Nevertheless, Dr. John D. Stevenson remains a senior adviser to S&A-CZ.

The technical focus and majority of the experience and expertise of Paul C. Rizzo Associates, Inc. is primarily in the practice areas of geotechnical engineering, including investigation planning, implementation, and results analysis, ground improvement techniques, slope stability, soil-structure interaction, hydrogeology, liquefaction potential, instrumentation and monitoring, and hazard remediation; structural engineering, including deep and shallow foundation design, comprehensive seismic load development, analysis, and design, special and unique structure analysis and design, and nuclear power plant structure and equipment analysis and qualification; civil engineering, including site layout and design, roadway and intersection design, surveying, drainage and storm runoff analysis and design, and leisure or recreation facility conceptualization and design; water resources engineering, including dam inspection, analysis, and design, water and waste water conveyance/transmission and storage, and watershed comprehensive studies and plans; and construction management, including cost estimating and scheduling, quality control/quality assurance, construction monitoring and inspection, value engineering, claim analysis and negotiation, and agency coordination.
The S&A-RU office was established in 1992 and has a 14 man staff. Originally also the office in Bucharest, Romania (S&A-RO) was established in 1993 having the 10 man staff but it became in early 2007 a part of AMEC NNC company. Depending on the individual office workload the staffs of European S&A offices provide manpower as necessary to each other. These offices can draw on the manpower of Paul C. Rizzo Associates, Inc. office as well.
In 2006 our typical engineer billing rates ranged from 20 € to 40 € per hour. Our project sizes have ranged from 10,000 € to 1,000,000 € and more.
The S&A-CZ office is well provided with state-of-the-art national and international literature, codes, and standards, as well as with modern information technology infrastructure, general-purpose and special software, measurement and testing devices.
From the year of 2006 the joint unit of S&A-CZ office and Czech Army Research Technical Institute is active providing the tests on newly constructed biaxial seismic testing table.
